The Practice of Speaking Small Truths: Self-Healing Sunday
When we don’t let it move, the body tightens, and we can’t express ourselves freely.
Welcome to Self-Healing Sunday. (I have recorded a practice for you above.)
Let’s dive in…
This week I was in my office creating something I’m really excited about.
Then a thought popped up: “I hope he’s not missing me.”
We’ve been watching The Lincoln Lawyer together in the evenings.
As soon as I noticed it, I could tell that my right shoulder blade felt heavy. I couldn’t fully relax.
He hadn’t said anything. But neither had I.
The words were there. Just stuck in my throat.
I wanted to go talk to him, but shame said, “That’s silly. Keep working.”
So I stayed.
The next day, I realized shame tricked me and went to him.
I said, “Hey babe, I’m really in my creative zone this week. If you’re missing me, tell me. I’ll come downstairs.”
He laughed. Said it was fine. Thanked me for checking in.
And my body relaxed.
I felt the difference.
That’s when I realized how much energy I’d been leaking by holding those words in.
And I know I’m not the only one.
We swallow the little things.
Tell ourselves it’s not a big deal.
Stay quiet.
But those small, unsaid truths settle in the shoulders, the throat, the chest.
And shame loves that space.
The thing is… those little unsaid moments don’t just affect our relationships.
They follow us into our calling and creativity.
Visibility doesn’t start on Instagram.
It starts at home, inside of you.
In the tiny moments when something wants to be spoken.
When we don’t let it move, the body tightens, and we can’t express ourselves freely.
So today’s practice is simple.
We’re not shouting our biggest truth; we’re speaking the little ones.
We’re making room for your creativity to flow more freely.
Today’s Self-Healing Sunday Practice
There’s a deeper explanation and a fully guided journey in the audio, so press play when you’re ready and let me guide you through the exercise. (Begins 3 min mark)
How the exercise works (read them below or listen to the audio):
1. I’m going to say the beginning of a sentence.
2. You’ll finish it out loud or say it in a whisper. (You can also journal)
3. Example “My favorite color is…(answer out loud, or whisper it)
There’s no overthinking.
Just say the first thing that bubbles up.
Find a quiet place where you can sit comfortably.
Close your eyes.
Take a few slow breaths.
Prompts to complete:
My favorite ice cream flavor is…
If I had the whole day to myself, I would…
The thing I wanted to say this week but didn’t is…
What I’m really feeling right now is…
Something I need more of is…
Something I need less of is…
The part of my calling that scares me is…
What I want to create but keep hesitating on is…
If I wasn’t afraid of being judged, I would…
The thing I know I’m meant to share is…
What I’m afraid will happen if I fully show up is…
What might happen if I actually succeed is…
What I need to forgive myself for is…
The way I’ve been abandoning myself is…
This is the year I stop…
This is the year I begin…
Great Job!
Take a deep breath in, exhale.
Notice what what just shifted.
Remember, the little truths matter.
Because when you practice speaking the small things, your body learns that expression is safe.
And when expression is safe… your calling has room to move.
This is how we build devotion to ourselves.
Much love,
Essence
If this practice brought something up for you, or if you’re realizing how much you’ve been holding in… this is the deeper work we do inside Embodied Priestess.
We clear the suppression so your voice and your calling can move freely.
The doors are open if your body feels ready.
