I just got off a call with one of my clients, and she was feeling guilty because she admitted there are moments where she just doesn’t want to be in mom mode.
And I told her, “You’re human.”
There is nothing wrong with you for having those thoughts.
Honestly, I’d rather you say them out loud than keep swallowing them and carrying all that resentment around in your body.
After our session…
I kept thinking about another mother that I worked with years ago.
I don’t offer single sessions very often because I really believe deep healing happens over time.
I love walking alongside women and building that relationship.
But this women watched a YouTube video of mine, then reached out.
She told me that she believes that just one session with me would change her life.
How could I say no to that?!
Sacred Rage & Motherhood
Quickly into the session I could feel the weight of the pain she was carrying.
There was rage…lots of it so I knew we needed to stand up and stomp.
I asked her “what wants to be expressed?”
And it all came pouring out.
“I’m sick of these kids.”
“I’m so tired.”
“I wish someone would come pick them up.”
“Everybody always needs something from me.”
She paused and I said “That was grea…”
I couldn’t finish before more poured out…
“Every 5 minutes someone is calling my name.”
“Somebody’s crying. Somebody fighting.
Finally I felt called to have her lie on the floor.
The rage needed another way to move through.
I said, “Let yourself have the temper tantrum.”
So she kicked, pounded the floor and screamed.
She let her body express the truth of what she was feeling even more.
This was 20 minutes of full on rage being expressed and it was so beautiful to witness a mother having the courage to let herself come undone.
Fucking powerful.
I felt honored to be chosen to lead this rage party.
And then it stopped…
Silence.
Peace.
The kind of peace you can actually feel.
Even through a computer screen.
We just laid there and breathed together.
Then 2 months later…this
She was right, one session with me shifted a lot for her.
Let’s talk about why…
Rage, anger, resentment whether it’s with parenting, marriage, business, career…makes no difference which part of life it’s in, the truth is still the same.
You have nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about.
You’re human and we all have “dark” emotions and thoughts.
The problem is when we hold them in and express them in unhealthy ways like unloading on the kids or hubby.
Also when we hold them in turn rancid, stale, ugly and they drain our happiness and lead to depression or just feeling numb.
That client knew that she needed to be held, witnessed and guided to release what her body was holding so she didn’t explode on the kids.
And to let go of unhelpful habits or addictions like drinking.
Those “shameful” emotions…
Aren’t bad or wrong.
They are messengers, letting you know that something isn’t okay and probably haven’t’ been for a long time.
So don’t hold them in.
Give them room to move.
Every emotion is sacred and deserves space, even rage.
