How Certifications Block Your Purpose
Maybe this one will be the thing that clicks...
Lately, I’ve been noticing this pattern come up with the women I work with… and honestly, I’ve been there too.
You start planning to show up for your purpose.
You get on Pinterest and put mood boards together for your brand.
You map out your first 8 YouTube video topics.
You sign up for an email provider.
Things are getting real.
A tiny bit of fear rises, the doubt kicks in…
Then before you know it, you’re online up til 12 am looking at another certification.
And part of you already knows you don’t actually need it.
But you’re still there.
Reading through it.
Feeling into it.
Thinking maybe this time everything will click.
The hope underneath it
It’s not really about the certification.
It’s the hope that comes with it.
That after this third certification, you’ll finally feel:
ready
clear
confident
legit
Like something will settle inside of you.
Like you’ll finally feel solid enough to just move foward and live your purpose.
The Pull Back
You can’t move forward and take action on your purpose because right now, your mind is doing all the work.
It’s taking in information and trying to turn it into a 20 step plan for success.
So it makes sense that the solution feels like more knowledge and understanding.
It feels productive and responsible.
I’m embarrassed to admit it, but sometimes it even feels aligned.
But here’s what actually happens
You finish the training.
You understand more.
You know what you should be doing.
And then you sit down to actually show up…and it’s the same hesitation and pull back.
The same second-guessing.
The same pause before you post, speak, or move forward.
You have everything you need including 2 certifications under your belt.
And yet, it’s still hard as hell to move forward.
If you’ve ever had the thought, “Maybe this isn’t meant for me… it shouldn’t feel this hard,” you’re not alone.
Where the disconnect really is
Knowledge lives in the mind.
Safety, trust, forward movement, and action-taking live in the body.
And those two don’t automatically translate.
*You can understand something fully and still not feel able to act on it.
*You can know your next step and still feel stuck when it’s time to take it.
Because the moment of taking action and sharing your purpose with the world isn’t mental.
It’s physical…and physical = body.
When you start working with your body (embodiment), you are not adding more information. You are building the capacity to act on the skills, and training that you already have.
Before and after embodiment work
-Before, you sit down to record the video you have been putting off since Sunday. Your chest tightens. You switch tabs. You tell yourself tomorrow.
After, the tightness still comes. But you put your hand on your heart for a second and you stay. You record something imperfect and you post it anyway.
-Before, you finally decide you are going to pitch yourself for that podcast opportunity. By Wednesday you have talked yourself out of it and you are not even sure how it happened.
After, you feel the yes in your body, you send the email before your mind catches up, and you celebrate yourself.
-Before, you know you need to raise your prices. You have known for six months. You update the number on your website and then change it back the same night.
After, you update it. You leave it. You move on with a smile.
When you have your body on board
You stop needing one more thing to satisfy your mind before you start.
You follow through more than you quit.
You come back to yourself faster when something knocks you off course.
And everything you’ve already learned (the certifications, courses, years of study) finally shows up in your actions, decisions, and your follow-through.
This is what’s possible for you.
And the good news is your body wants to be on board with you and your purpose; you just have to take the first step.
This is your time!
Your purpose in the world matters.
And the gifts you’re here to share matters.
Much love,
Essence
P.S.
If you’ve been in that mental loop of: “I just need one more thing before I really go all in,” I would love to talk.
Book a discovery call; there’s no pressure.
We’ll look at what is actually happening in your body and what it would take to get your body on board with your purpose, and if you want help with that, we’ll talk about that too.
