We’re diving into a beautiful practice to help us connect with ourselves and others:
Loving-Kindness Meditation.
This practice has three simple parts that I’ll share with you.
You can even create your own phrases to personalize it.
What is Loving-Kindness Meditation?
This meditation is all about cultivating love and compassion, first for ourselves and then extending it to those around us.
It’s a way to open our hearts and strengthen our connections, not just with others but also with our inner selves.
How to Practice Loving-Kindness Meditation:
Relax: Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths to center yourself and place your hands on your heart.
1. Begin with Yourself: Silently repeat phrases like, “May I be happy. May I be healthy. May I be safe. May I live with ease.” Feel the warmth of these wishes in your heart.
2. Extend to Loved Ones: Now think of someone you care about. See them in your mind’s eye. Repeat those phrases for them: “May you be happy. May you be healthy. May you be safe. May you live with ease.”
3. Extend to Others: Include people you may barely know like co-workers, the barista, and even those you find challenging or flat-out dislike. See them in your minds eye send those well wishes out to them as well.
As you go through all 3 parts of this meditation, let yourself visualize the warmth and compassion flowing from your heart. It’s a beautiful way to deepen your self-connection and spread kindness to others.
Next try creating your own phrases.
What is that you need or want to experience or feel? Write down 3 or 4 things.
Example: peace, joy, good health, an open heart
Now turn into your own loving kindness meditation.
May I find peace.
May I embrace joy in every moment.
May I enjoy good health.
May my heart remain open.
Then send out your well wishes to your loved ones and others.
